Reconstrucion of the fashion

The reconstruction of the city lasted a number of years, however, there were some fashionable places cropping up among the ruins. This reality was perfectly captured in the photography of Zofia Chomętowska. These included makeshift beauty salons, which afforded people a dash of ‘luxury’ after the suffering they’d endured – a flashback to what life was like before the horrors of the occupation.

The topic of fashion was taken up by the press and the few runway shows brought in a wave of glamour. Some Parisian trends began making their way back to the streets of Warsaw.
