Poles In Paris

Grażyna Hase and Barbara Hoff built their fashion careers at home, however some Polish designers ventured beyond the nation’s borders to try their luck in the fashion capital of the world. Krystyna Buczkowska and Irena Gregori made their marks on Paris, along with the Polish Jewish designer Zyga Pianko and his Pierre d’Alby line.

Roman Cieślewicz

One of the most significant figures in the fashion world of the time was Roman Cieślewicz (1930-1996). The renowned graphic designer and poster artist (also known for his Moda Polska poster designs) emigrated to Paris in 1963 (becoming a French citizen eight years later). He lent his eye and aesthetic dexterity to the pages of Vogue and Elle as art director. He went on to serve as art director for the innovative Paris-based M.A.F.I.A marketing and advertising agency for four years. What else was trendy?
