The new millennium

The new millennium

The glittering red-carpet styles of the 1990s secured the positions of the decade’s most ambitious fashion designers, giving many of them an opportunity to flourish over the next decade. These designers not only created eye-catching outfits for the biggest stars in the country – they established themselves as celebrities in their own right.

Some of them went on to set up fashion houses which were modelled on those of their Western counterparts, however, they didn’t function exactly in the same way or on the same scale as the French or Italian giants.

The grandiose fashion shows they put on garnered a great deal of interest, particularly as they weren’t just showcases for the latest collections, but also as major society events that were musts for media personalities and celebrities, as well as business executives, potential investors and sponsors.

Fashion magazines of the mid ‘90s and early 2000s in Poland put the spotlight on local brands, driving up their popularity and deepening the connection between fashion and celebrity. Many of the designer labels that were so successful two decades ago are still doing quite well today, but some of them have disappeared in spite of their best efforts.
